View of Padstow Harbour from Room One

Saturday Guardian Travel Review [read online]
Enclosed by the Camel estuary, its harbour bobbing with fishing boats, Padstow is one of Cornwall's prettiest coastal towns. It does get quite crowded, but the centre is refreshingly low on cars and the promenade round the harbour is buzzy and enjoyable. South Quay B&B is a bargain given its location right by the water. The back double bedroom is a good bet if you're on a budget – it's prettily decorated in pink and white and shares a spacious bathroom with the brisk owners. The gem, though, is the en suite top bedroom, which has a tiny terrace under the gable of the house where you can sit and survey the lively goings-on of the harbour. You'll find the famous Rick Stein restaurants and cafe nearby.

About the house:
The house is a three storey Victorian town house, next door to the Old Customs House Inn. Opposite is the South Quay car park, which charges £8.00 for twenty-four hours. The house is strictly non-smoking, but you are welcome to use the outside breakfast table for drinks or picnics, during the day.

We have breakfast outside in the sun whenever possible – large English traditional, vegetarian, or continental.

Some people prefer the impersonal atmosphere of a guest house, others the relaxed informality of a private house. We would put ourselves firmly in the latter category. Maybe you want to stay out late and miss breakfast – no problem. If you want ice for a gin and tonic, or a newspaper in the morning, to borrow a local map, a surfboard, a waterproof for a mackerel trip, or just need advice about where to eat, or more importantly where not to, we will do our best. If you absolutely MUST keep in touch with the outside world, we offer free wifi.

About Padstow:
There are so very many things to see and do in Padstow and the surrounding area – the opportunities for watersports and golf are unparalleled, for instance. Suffice it to say, whatever your interests, there will be something here to make your day and your holiday. For any more information, do get in touch with Jane or Peter by e-mail or phone.

About us:
After leaving Wellington College, Peter joined the Royal Marines, then spent several years in advertising, after which he went into the restaurant/pub business. Jane spent most of her life teaching sailing and ski-ing, before joining Peter in the pub trade. We are now retired from that, leaving us plenty of time for golf, sailing, skiing, snowboarding and partying.
